A stage of wool preparation that follows scouring and precedes carding, in which the fibers are softened and whitened. It is one of the washing steps that turn freshly shorn fleece into clean wool ready to be carded, spun and dyed into rug yarn.
A wool-preparation step in which cleaned wool passes through a carding machine that lines the fibers up in one direction and removes any impurities still left. It follows scouring and carbonizing and comes before spinning, leaving the wool ready to be spun into yarn for the rug.
