Modern Rugs – Hand-Knotted Contemporary Designs

Transform Your Space with Modern Rugs

At YourCarpet.com, our modern rugs prove that hand-knotting is not tied to any one century. These are one-of-a-kind wool pieces from Persia and the Himalayas with a restrained palette and an uncluttered design — simple modern rugs that give a clean-lined room the depth and warmth a bare floor lacks.

Some of the best come from an old tradition that happens to look new: the Gabbeh rug, woven by nomadic and village weavers of the Fars region in southern Iran, around Shiraz. With its thick, long wool pile and simplified, almost abstract motifs, a Gabbeh was a minimalist rug long before minimalism had a name — which is exactly why a modern carpet of this kind sits so naturally in a contemporary interior.

Why Choose Modern Rugs?

Modern rugs are the choice for those who love clean lines and quiet rooms — proof that contemporary rugs and a centuries-old technique are not opposites. Here's why our modern rugs stand out:

• Contemporary Style: A hand-knotted rug gives a spare, clean-lined room texture, depth and a feel of craft — without adding clutter.
• Versatility: Few colours, with accents close to the main hue, means these are modern rugs for the living room, bedroom and office alike — each settles in without a fight.
• Durability: A hand-knotted modern wool rug takes years of footsteps in its stride — a Gabbeh's thick pile was woven for hard nomadic use long before it ever met a city flat.
• Comfort: The long, dense pile of a Gabbeh is among the softest footfalls in the whole catalogue — noticeably deeper underfoot than the average Persian carpet.

A few of the forms modern takes in hand-knotted weaving:

• Gabbeh Rugs: A single field carrying a handful of small, almost naive motifs — trees, animals and people reduced to their simplest shapes — whether the wool is dyed or left in its natural fleece tones.
• Tibetan and Nepalese Rugs: Hand-knotted in thick Himalayan wool with clean fields and quiet geometry — the other great tradition behind our modern collection, and the looms behind many of today's luxury and designer rugs.
• Simple Modern Rugs: Quiet, minimal designs in wool for those who want the floor to whisper rather than speak.
• Modern Persian Rugs: Contemporary drawing from the same looms and knots as the traditional repertoire — a modern Persian rug is still a Persian rug through and through.
