Add Texture and Tradition to Your Space
At YourCarpet.com, we celebrate the oldest way of making a rug: weaving it flat — a craft older than the pile carpet itself. Our Kilim and Sumak rugs have no pile and no knots — a kilim rug is a flat-woven rug built thread through thread, which leaves it light, remarkably hard-wearing and fully reversible, while a sumak rug gains a ribbed, embroidery-like surface from wrapping the weft around the warps. Whether you're looking for an Iranian kilim rug with bold tribal motifs or a quieter kilim for a modern room, this is weaving at its most direct.
Everything in a good flat-weave rug is natural: wool, cotton or goat hair, coloured with organic dyes. Colours can shift gently across a field where one hand-mixed dye lot ended and the next began — a trait of naturally dyed wool that deepens in character as the kilim ages.
Why Choose Kilim and Sumak Rugs?
Kilim and Sumak rugs are the choice for anyone who wants a handwoven rug with real cultural heritage behind it. Here's why our Kilim and Sumak rugs stand out:
- Handwoven Craftsmanship: Every kilim rug and sumak rug here is handwoven — the pattern is built line by line in the weave itself, not added on top of it.
- Durability: With no pile to crush or wear down, a tightly woven kilim shrugs off daily traffic that would slowly thin a pile carpet — and because a kilim is reversible, turning it over now and then shares the wear between two equally good faces.
- Versatility: A kilim area rug is a thin rug, light enough to move on a whim and flat enough to lie under doors and furniture — and it looks as good hung on a wall as laid on a floor.
- Cultural Charm: The geometric motifs of our Iranian kilim rugs carry centuries of tribal symbolism — woven by the same tribes and villages whose weavers pass their patterns down from memory. A Persian kilim is a family archive you can walk on.

Our collection features a wide range of styles, sizes, and colours to suit your needs. Here are some highlights:
- Kilim Wool Rugs: Pure natural wool, organic dyes and bold geometry — our kilim wool rugs bring warmth and texture without bulk.
- Sumak Rugs: The wrapped weave leaves a finely ridged face that reads like embroidery — our sumak rugs (also spelled Soumak) carry that density of detail in a flat, pile-free format.
- Iranian Kilim Rugs: Persian flatweaves in the traditions of Iran's tribes and villages — each of our Iranian kilim rugs is handwoven and one of a kind.
- Kilim Area Rugs: From small mats to 200x300 cm, our kilim area rugs cover everything from a hallway accent to a large kilim rug across a full living-room floor.
