The practice of turning a rug around on its spot, typically a half turn (180 degrees), at set intervals so that foot traffic, furniture weight and sunlight fall on different areas and the pile wears evenly. The interval depends on the load: at least every two years in ordinary use, about yearly under heavy furniture or an office chair, and about every six months in a hallway or entryway. Even wear also counts in a used rug's favor when its value is judged.
