An edge finish in which yarn is wrapped continuously around the perimeter of a rug, by hand or machine, producing a rounded, rope-like border. It is the standard way to finish the long sides of a rug (fringe usually marks the warp ends), and on hand-made pieces the evenness of the serging is a quick clue to the care taken in finishing.
