An antique Persian rug from the Heriz weaving area of northwestern Iran, the middle stage of Heriz design: more structured than the tribal, more open Bakshaish of the 1870s and earlier, yet less busy than the Heriz woven from the 1910s onward. Woven from the late 19th to the earliest 20th century, Serapis keep an open, spacious layout with bold geometric drawing in an earthy palette. All are now over a century old and fairly rare, and collectors prize them for their decorative appeal and durability.
