Round Rugs – Hand-Knotted Persian Round Rugs in Wool and Silk

Round Rugs, Hand-Knotted in Persia

Every round rug in this collection is a hand-knotted Persian piece in wool and silk: a wool pile brightened with silk in the details, on a fine cotton foundation. The blend takes everyday use in its stride, where a pure round silk rug is better kept to a room with little traffic. The palettes are white and blue, some with beige, brown, grey or red accents. Whether a piece reads as a round blue rug or a white one, the drawing follows the classic Persian repertoire of a central medallion and a floral border.

A round Persian rug is a rarity in hand-knotting, because the weaver has to curve the border on a loom built for straight lines. That is why these carpets come from workshops that specialize in them, several of them in Nain, and why each one is a single piece rather than a size run.

Which Diameter for Which Room

A round rug is measured by its diameter, and the right one depends on what stands on it. If you are torn between two sizes, say a 200 cm round rug and a 250 cm one, mark the circle out on the floor first — painter’s tape or a spread-out sheet at the true diameter settles the question at a glance:

• Ø150 cm — under a small pedestal table, in an entrance hall, or as the rug a reading chair stands on.
• Ø200 cm — the rug for a round table for two, up to about 60 cm across, leaving room to pull the chairs back, or for the middle of a seating circle, where a round wool rug anchors the whole arrangement.
• Ø250 cm — under a round dining table of up to about 110 cm and its pulled-out chairs, as a large round rug for the living room, where it softens the corners of a square room, or as the center of an open-plan floor, where a circular rug marks out a zone no wall defines.

Wool and Silk, and How to Keep Them Looking New

The silk in these pieces catches the light differently from each side of the room, so the same carpet reads paler or deeper as you walk around it. Give it a quarter turn every year or two — yearly under furniture or in a busy room — so it wears and fades evenly, vacuum with suction only and never a beater bar, and blot spills at once with a dry white cloth.

Each listing shows the piece from the front, its exact diameter and its materials, and every rug ships free, with import duties included on deliveries outside the EU.
